Description

Introduction
The Stone Forest is also known as Shilin,it covers an area of 140 sq meter.Stone Forest is a notable set of limestone formations located in Kunming.The tall rocks seem to fall to the ground in the manner of stalagmites,with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone.

According to legend,the forest is the birthplace of Ashima who is a beautiful girl of the Yi people.After falling in love she was forbidden to marry her chosen suitor and instead turned into a stone in the forest that still bears her name.Each year on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month,many Yi people celebrate the Torch Festival,which features folk dances and wrestling competitions.

Tips
1.It’s better to visit Stone Forest from 7:30 Am to 11:30,guests are able to see sunrise,as well as skip crowded tourist group.

2.Guests could take bus from East Bus Station of Kunming to Stone Forest,it will cost 25 Yuan per person,and spend two hours one road.

3.If guests use private car,it will cost one and half hours one road.
